Childrens

Nigel Gainey provide sight tests for children and stock an exciting range of glasses. It can be hard to tell if your child has a problem with their sight, which makes it all the more important to ensure they have regular eye checks.

Signs that children may have problems with their vision can include:

    Squinting
Holding objects close to their face
Rubbing their eyes
Sitting too close to the TV or computer
One eye turning inwards or outwards

Any of these indicators are worth investigating with an optometrist as soon as possible. Even without any of these symptoms, eye checks every two years are important to monitor a child’s eye health as they grow and develop.

Squinting or having a "lazy eye" is something to be especially aware of. The condition is called Amblyopia and means that the vision in one eye does not develop properly. If not identified and treated by about age 7-8 years old, it can cause irreparable damage - but diagnosed properly and treated early, it is usually correctable.

Our team know exactly what to look for when it comes to children's ocular health and can guide parents through the process, as well putting little ones at ease throughout.

If they need glasses, we offer a range of fun and functional frames that will appeal to children of all ages.

What Our Customers Say...

I have been using Nigel Gainey for many years now because they are always helpful, friendly and professional, and never rush you into making a decision.

Mrs E Jones - St Budeaux

I was unsure about choosing contact lenses so they offered me a free trial just to be sure they suited me. I’m so pleased they did as I have now been using them for 2 years

Ms G Berry - Crownhill

Both my children have needed glasses and I found a City Centre store very pushy. My friend put me onto Nigel Gainey and I have never looked back. Thank you so much.

Joan Till - Hartley
